OPPORTUNITY: Create a motion graphic based on a song, speech, or poem. The video must be at least one minute long and include a title intro sequence with the name of the song, poem, or speech and who the audio file is by.
SOLUTION: This is a clip from Olivia Rodrigo's song Enough for You. It was chosen because Olivia Rodrigo already has a strong visual identity that invokes memories in the viewer of sketching in notebooks during school. The video utilizes this visual identity through the use of the crumpled paper and sketched illustrations. Pink is also one of the colors typically associated with Rodrigo as well, which is why it was selected.
The first step of the design process was creating a storyboard of essential frames as well as art for 3 key frames of the motion graphic designed in the visual style of the video. Initially, the video was going to utilize a handwritten-style typeface and illustrations created using Adobe Illustrator. After an in-class process critique, it was clear that the handwritten typeface was not working and did not read as natural handwriting. The decision was then made to use a sans serif typeface with occasional handwritten words for emphasis and to hand-sketch the illustrations. The illustrations for the motion graphic were all sketched in the Procreate iPad app and then uploaded to Adobe AfterEffects to create the final product.
